ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Program:
The safrus program is for bochurim completing shiur beis and gimmel of mesivta, and shiur alef and beis of zal. The participants will have shiurim and instructional sessions, with plenty of time for questions and answers.
The participants will be taught how to prepare and work with the kulmus, the klaf and the ink, as well as how to write according to ksav Admu"r Hazokein. All of the necessary supplies will be given to the participants.
Please keep in mind, that no program can turn one into a סופר. We will endeavor to teach the הלכות and the mechanics, and we will provide plenty of hands-on training and practice. But, we cannot guarantee satisfactory results - as those will depend on the skills, motivation and practice that each participant will bring to the table.
It should be noted that a participant who is serious about safrus and practices in his free time will likely be eligible for, and will receive a Certificate of Hamlatza (recommendation) by the end of Yeshivas Kayitz.
The Safrus will be taught by Rabbi Yitzchok Eilenberg.

F.A.Q.
1) Do I have to be right-hand in order to be a Sofer?
No. However, since there are different techniques for left-handed people, it is important that we know in advance.
2) I am not artistic and I don't have a nice handwriting. Can I still be a Sofer?
Yes. There are sofrim that are not artistic and do not have a nice regular handwriting, but, they have a nice handwriting when it comes to Sta"m. Sta"m is a different skill then regular writing.
3) I only want to learn how to check mezuzos, is that a possibility?
Yes, it is possible. Yet, from a practical standpoint, as strange as it may seem, learning how to check without knowing how to write is more strenuous then just learning how to write. It is simpler to learn how to write and then learn how to check. Throughout the program, we will focus on writing and not checking,
4) So at the end of the summer will I be able to check?
No.
5) Which ksav is going to be taught?
The Alter Rebbe's ksav.
6) What if I want to learn a different ksav?
During the summer we will be learning the Alter Rebbe's ksav. Once you learn one ksav, it will be easier for you to learn a different ksav later.
7) Is it really possible to learn it all in just six weeks?
Yes. Many people have done it, some even in only four weeks (but of course there are no guarantees.) It all depends on how much time you spend practicing.
8) Isn't Postville the headquarters of kosher meat, shouldn't there be a program for learning shechita?
Stay tuned:) IYH, within the next couple of years we will have a program for shechita as well.
